What changed in 2026–27
CBSE launched a Computational Thinking & Artificial Intelligence curriculum framework for Classes 3–8 for the 2026–27 session and advised all affiliated schools to take the steps needed to implement it (Circular Acad-15/2026, 1 April 2026).
- Classes 3–5: Computational Thinking is embedded in Maths and The World Around Us. This is the Preparatory Stage; the framework suggests 50 hours a year.
- Classes 6–8: The Middle Stage continues Computational Thinking across subjects and adds an introduction to Artificial Intelligence; the framework suggests 100 hours a year. Time allocations are described as flexible.
- Assessment: The framework asks for continuous, competency-based assessment. For Classes 3–5 it is linked to Maths and The World Around Us; from Class 6 it focuses on projects, assignments, reflective journals and tasks.
